Our Story
Ripple began with a simple question: what happens when light moves through something rather than off it?
It's the result of years spent exploring form and material, built on a close collaboration between an interior decorator and an electrician. We spent countless hours watching light travel through translucent PETG, studying how it caught in a curve, softened in a fold, pooled in a shadow. Ripple is the result: a sculptural form that behaves less like a lamp and more like something drawn from water.
It's made to order, then queued and printed in small batches in our Australian workshop, and finished by hand.
Ripple has quiet confidence rather than loud presence, and that's exactly the point. The scalloped surface catches your eye first, then holds it: the way light travels through each curve, the way colour shifts across the day, the way it never quite reads the same twice. That's the idea behind Refraction: pieces considered enough to hold your attention without needing to ask for it.
Design & Material
Light changes the way Ripple is seen.
When switched on, the LED creates a soft, diffused glow within the lamp, casting warm light through the space around it.
But Ripple isn't only about the light when it's switched on. The translucent surface responds to the light around it too. Daylight, a nearby lamp or the softer light of an evening room falls across the form, revealing different parts of the texture as you move around it.
The scalloped surface catches light along each curve, creating subtle changes in reflection and shadow throughout the day.
Ripple is available in two styles. Classic has a smoother, more restrained silhouette, while Fluted introduces deeper texture and a stronger contrast between light and shadow.
The visible layers created through 3D printing are part of Ripple's character. Rather than hiding the manufacturing process, the texture becomes part of the finished design, catching the light and giving the surface a quiet sense of depth.
Each Ripple is made to order in our Australian studio. Nothing is printed without a confirmed order, with pieces queued and produced in small batches before being checked by hand.
We chose PETG for how it performs as well as how it looks. Our first pieces were printed in PLA, but PETG proved better suited to Ripple. It has greater heat resistance, is more resistant to everyday knocks and drops, and the printed layers bond more strongly to give the finished piece a more solid feel.
Its translucency is an important part of the design. It allows the light from the LED to soften through the material, while also allowing the surface to interact with the light already present in the room.
Styling & Living With
Ripple sits comfortably on a console, bedside table or reading nook. It pairs naturally with the materials we love working around: travertine, warm timber, linen and soft plaster.
Try it:
- On a stone or travertine surface, where the light catches the texture of both.
- Beside a bed, on its lowest brightness, as a soft evening glow.
- Grouped with one or two considered objects rather than a crowded shelf. Ripple works best with room to breathe.
Ripple is cordless, so it moves with you. Charge it via the included USB-C cable when it needs it, then let it sit fully wireless wherever the light feels right, or leave it plugged in with the generous 2 m cord if you'd rather keep it topped up in one spot. Either way, it's free to sit indoors, or on a sheltered outdoor table for an evening.
The light is adjustable in colour, from warm white through to cool white, with full RGB colour when you want something more playful, a slow gradient mode that shifts through colours on its own, and a faster colour-flashing mode for something livelier. Brightness is adjustable too, it's dimmable, and there's a sleep timer you can set to 30, 60 or 120 minutes, all controlled remotely so you can shift the mood without getting up.
It's designed for indoor use, with portability to sheltered outdoor areas. We wouldn't recommend leaving it exposed to rain or direct weather.
Product Care and Maintenance
Wipe with a soft, dry cloth. The LED light module is a sealed, rechargeable unit, avoid submerging it or exposing the charging port to water.
This lamp is designed for low-voltage LED lighting only. It is not suitable for halogen or incandescent globes, which generate more heat than the PETG body is designed to handle.
FAQs
Why is Ripple 3D printed?
3D printing lets us hold a level of sculptural detail that would be difficult to achieve any other way, and it means we can produce Ripple in small batches rather than committing to mass production.
Why can I see the print layers?
We've left them visible on purpose. The layers catch the light and add a quiet texture to the surface, so the manufacturing process becomes part of the design rather than something to hide.
What is PETG?
PETG is a clear plastic known for its strength and printability. We chose it for how it performs, better heat resistance, better drop resistance, and stronger bonding between the printed layers, as well as its clarity.
Is every piece identical?
Ripple is made in small batches, so you may notice very slight, natural variation from piece to piece. This is part of what happens with small-batch, hand-finished production, not a defect.
How do I charge it?
Ripple charges via the included USB-C cable. Once charged, it's fully cordless.
Can I use it outside?
Ripple is designed for indoor use and can be brought onto a sheltered outdoor table for an evening. We wouldn't recommend leaving it exposed to weather.
Is Ripple made to order or produced in batches?
Both, and they work together. Nothing is printed until you've placed an order, so there's no stock sitting in a warehouse. Once an order comes in, it's queued and printed in small batches, our workshop runs a small fleet of printers, and running them efficiently (including around our solar power timing) means grouping orders rather than printing one at a time around the clock.
How long until my order arrives?
Because Ripple is made to order, please allow approximately 3 weeks for dispatch.
Is Ripple entirely made in Australia?
The lamp itself, its design and 3D-printed body, is designed and made here in our Australian workshop. The LED light module is a removable, standard component, just like a light globe you'd buy for any table lamp, and isn't itself manufactured in Australia.
How long does the battery last?
Up to 10 hours of running time per charge.
How long does it take to charge?
A full charge takes around 4 hours. You can leave the lamp plugged in where it sits, or remove the LED module and charge it wherever's easiest for you.
